Biotecnica produces a wide range of peptones and protein hydrolysates for a very diverse range of uses, some of which are specifically designed for certain specialized applications. The main use of peptones and protein hydrolysates is in the production of culture media; in dehydrated, liquid and solid forms for the growth and identification of microorganisms.

There are hundreds of different media formulations, and each may contain one or more different peptones. Each culture media company has developed its own formulations to optimize the growth of a particular genus/species or groups of genera.

Significant volumes of peptones are present in fermentation media that are used to produce larger volumes of microorganism biomass. In addition, many biotechnological and recombinant DNA procedures also require these means, and the volume is growing significantly. All these fermentation processes require peptones to provide microorganisms with essential nutrients. Biotecnica offers cost-effective products for all applications, and some special products for fermentation processes that result in high-value end products such as interferons, insulin and growth hormones.

Peptones are also used for some tissue culture media and vaccine stabilizers, especially lactalbumin hydrolysates. Other non-media applications have been in the area of cosmetics (where casein acid digests are used in shampoo and hair conditioner formulations), in electroplating processes (as processing aids) and in the area of special dietary products (where hydrolysates are used as a source of amino acids).
